Many of you have heard that Mr. Snyder received the Columbus Symphony's Community Music Educator Award in April. As part of that recognition he received a $5,000 grant - to be used by one of the groups he conducts. He has designated the All-Ohio Youth Choir as the recipient of this generous grant.

The funds have been earmarked for these four areas:

  • Choir Staff Planning Retreat: $1,000
Darrell L. Rubel (choir staff, 1992; DSA, 2007) will be the guest leader for the Lakeside event, June 6/7
  • New Instruments: $1,000
Two new tenor drum sets will be purchased for the 2008 AOSFYC to replace borrowed drums
  • Outreach: $1,000
Will provide 8 need-based scholarships for the 2008 AOSFYC
  • New program: $2,000
The first "All-Ohio Choral Festival" has been in the works for a year. Plans include bringing a quartet of singers from 30 high schools for a day on our "campus" - the Expo Center. The day of rehearsals and sessions for teachers will be led by the Youth Choir staff and the Cardinal Chorale will serve as the demonstrating ensemble. The day will conclude with a concert for parents and friends. The allotted funds will help provide promotional materials, pay for facility rental and help with other related expenses. The intent is to invite 15 teachers who regularly support the AOYC, and 15 teachers who are unfamiliar with the Youth Choir.

Funding provided by the Columbus Symphony Music Educator Awards sponsored by the McGraw-Hill Companies with support of AEP, Battelle, and Nationwide.
